Changing Lives,
Achieving Goals
The AJOY Foundation was founded in May 2017 by Randy and Jenny Light to help change the lives of children and young adults by removing some of the obstacles that they may encounter in pursuit of their individual dreams and goals. “Our own experience with our son, Evan, has shown us that many opportunities exist for children with mobility issues; however, the high cost of difference-making equipment and the seemingly difficult logistics of obtaining it is prohibitive to many families”, say the Lights. They added, “We have been so blessed to watch Evan compete among able-bodied athletes and have success because of caring, capable, and forward-thinking prosthetists who took time to explore his needs and were inventive in their approach to equipping him. It is our mission to contribute to the successes of other similarly situated beneficiaries.”
“Ajoy” is the name given to Evan when he arrived at the Nava Jeevan Children’s Home in Calcutta in 2001 following an accident that resulted in the amputation of both of his legs below the knee. The English translation of this Indian name is “unconquerable”. In honor of Evan, the Lights chose to use this name for a foundation determined to give children and young adults the chance to conquer their obstacles.
